Supported File Types

Find out which file types Orangedox supports for online previewing and dynamic watermarking, including maximum file sizes and limitations.

Maximum File Size

Files shared from Google Drive are subject to a maximum file size of 1 GB. Any larger files will show a file exceeds max file size message in the document viewer and will not be available for download.

Files shared from Dropbox do not have a limit on the file size.

Folder Limits

Folders shared from Google Drive and Dropbox will only list the first 1,000 subfolders and files and will be sorted by ascending name.

Supported File Types

Adobe PDF

PDF files that are no larger than 50 MB are supported for previewing and watermarking.

PDF files with a high degree of complexity (a large number of fonts and complex elements) may also not be able to be previewed or watermarked.

PDF form fields are not supported. Interactive form fields in PDF documents, such as text input fields, checkboxes and dropdown menus, may not display or function correctly in the Orangedox document viewer. Flattening the pdf (print to PDF) will allow for the filled out fields to show in the Orangedox viewer.

Any PDF files that cannot be previewed will not be available for watermarking and will default to allowing the document to be downloaded (if enabled) in its original format without a watermark.

Supported extension:

Google Docs

Google Docs, Google Sheets and Google Slides that are not larger than 15 MB when exported are supported for previewing and watermarking.

Any Google files that cannot be previewed will not be available for watermarking and will default to allowing the document to be downloaded (if enabled) in its original format without a watermark.

In addition, all Google files that are watermarked will only be available in PDF format for downloading.

• Google Slides

Microsoft Office

MS Word and MS PowerPoint files that are no larger than 50 MB are supported for previewing and watermarking.

Office files that cannot be previewed will not be available for watermarking and will default to allowing the document to be downloaded (if enabled) in their original format without a watermark.

In addition, all Office files that are watermarked will only be available in PDF format for downloading.

Note: Document fonts and formatting may not be exact when previewing files online. We recommend converting documents to PDF before sharing for a better online preview.

Video

MP4 AVC videos that are no larger than 1 GB are supported for previewing.

Supported format:

• MP4 AVC (.mp4)

Audio

MP3 audio files that are no larger than 100 MB are supported for previewing.

Note: The embedded album art will be used as the preview image.

Supported extension:

• .mp3

Images

Images that are no larger than 1 GB with the following file extensions are supported for previewing.

Supported extensions:

• .jpg
• .jpeg
• .png
• .tiff
• .tif
• .gif
• .bpm

Text & Code Files

Text files that are no larger than 30 MB with the following file extensions are supported for previewing.

Supported extensions:

• .txt
• .markdown
• .mdown
• .mkdn
• .md
• .c
• .coffee
• .cpp
• .css
• .diff
• .js
• .java
• .less
• .php
• .py
• .rb
• .sass
• .scss
• .sql
• .vb
• .htm
• .html

Important Information About Unsupported Files

Any file type not specified above, or any file that exceeds the maximum file size for previewing, will be available for download even if downloading is disabled.

This list can always be considered current and will be kept up to date.
