Important Google Drive Changes

On June 23rd 2021 Google announced that it would be making some security changes on how some files that have been shared on Google Drive would be accessed.

Security Update for Google Drive

What does this mean for my Orangedox shared files?

Since Orangedox uses share links to deliver your content from Google Drive on your behalf, you will be required to update your Google Drive security policy to ensure your Orangedox shared files continue to function correctly.

What do I need to do?

There are two options for updating your Google Drive security

  • Individually Remove Security Update (until Aug 26th 2021) You can individually remove the security update for each effected file that you’ve shared with Orangedox.

To do so click the “See Files” in the security update alert when going to the web version of Google Drive https://drive.google.com .

Then for each file you’ve shared with Orangedox select “Remove security update”

  • Update your Entire Workspace Account (until Sept 13th 2021) If you’re an organization with a Google Workspace account you can also elect to update your entire workspace account which will remove the security update from all users and their affected shared files.

To do this go to your Google Worksafe admin sharing settings page (or follow the link below)

https://admin.google.com/ac/appsettings/55656082996/sharing

Then select “Remove security update for all impacted files”

How important is this?

Failing to apply one of these security changes may mean that your shared Orangedox files will not be able to be accessed by your recipients.
